Meet Our Staff

John Roemmelt

John Roemmelt, Funeral Director/Manager
John was born in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Deltona from Middle Village, Queens in 1997.  He graduated from the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service in January 1991 and has been working in Funeral Service since 1989.  He has a diverse work history in the funeral business and has been managing funeral homes for several years.

Honesty, integrity, moral values and high standards are his chief concerns in the funeral home and his home life.  An informative, no pressure approach has allowed him to successfully help client families.  John is a Catholic and a 4th degree member of the Knight of Columbus.

He spends most of his free time with his wife, Laura Anne, and two beautiful daughters and enjoys bass fishing, hunting, barbeques and his friends whenever possible.

Edward Villalobos

Edward Villalobos, Staff Associate

Edward was born in El Paso, Texas, attending Parochial Schools of St. Joseph’s Elementary and Cathedral High School. In addition, he has a BA degree in Sociology and Psychology from the University of Texas. He served in the United States Air Force and worked for Continental, Eastern and Texas International Airlines.

Relocating to Florida in 1993, he worked and retired (in 2001) from the state as a Social Worker. He has been with Brisson Funeral Home since May 2005, working part-time, as needed. With his diverse background in working with the public, he is a natural for this business.

The love of his life, “Hunny Bunny”, better known as Jeannette, and Ed have been married since 1958.  They have five children and twelve grandchildren.   He is an active member of All Souls Catholic Church, involved as Minister at Pastor’s request, 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus (Council 5357 and Assembly 1667) and, in the past, RCIA.   His interests include being a servant to the Lord Jesus and humanity.

Ethel Fagan

Ethel Fagan, Office Manager
Originally from Massachusetts, Ethel moved to Central Florida in 1955, attending the local schools and community college.  She retired in 2000 from the telecommunications industry as an Executive Assistant to the president after 35 years and traveled the continental U.S. in their motorhome with her husband, Charley, of 43 years.

Presently working at Brisson Funeral Home on a part-time basis (since 2006), one has to wonder, “Why this profession?”  Ethel’s comment is:  “I feel that I can serve the community and families by offering sincere, heartfelt compassion combined with the professionalism that comes with experience.”

She is a member of All Souls Catholic Church in Sanford and is a board member of the Council of Catholic Women, Knights of Columbus Women’s Club, Minister of the Eucharist and has previously helped with the RCIA.

Other than traveling, her interests include their family, two grandchildren, (attending softball games, cheerleading trials and dancing recitals) and their greyhound, Lisa.

Oren (Shorty) Smith

Oren (Shorty) Smith, Staff Associate
Shorty was born in Waycross, GA, and moved to Sanford in 1927.  Shorty began working for Brisson Funeral Home in 1940, yes, that’s correct; you see Shorty is 96 years young.  He has performed in every area of the funeral business since that time.  Obviously, he is well-known in the Sanford and surrounding areas.

Shorty worked part-time, every day until his retirement in June 2007. His honesty and ethics have been instilled in all who have worked with him and will echo within the walls of Brisson Funeral Home for a long, long time to come.

His late wife, Minnie, of 69 years is just a thought away as he thinks about her all the time.  They had two beautiful children, one living in Dallas, TX, and the other in New Smyrna Beach, FL.  He is a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sanford.

His family is the most important thing in his life, along with the many friends he has made over the years.  He loves fishing, but doesn’t get a chance to go much.  One can find him at the Colonial Room in downtown Sanford most days for lunch where he can meet with his friends.
